I am getting ready to run my first Castles and Crusades adventure this Saturday for six new to C&C but experienced role-players. A real C&C newbie fest if you will. There are two points that this veteran group is stuck on, hoping someone can shed some light. I have a 6th Edition Players Guide and another player has a 2nd Edition Guide if that matters. I backed the latest kickstarter so I will have plenty of guides soon enough.
The first point is racial modifiers. Do they change the base attribute or the modifying amount? I have one player who changed his 15 strength to a 16 to get the +2. A different player has 13 strength and added it to the modifier to get +2.
Secondly there is a constitution bonus to HP. Is that for your base HP or just rolls when you make levels? If a player has a +1 modifier and is a base d12 barbarian half orc does she start with 13 HP?
Thanks in advance!
Sir Matthew
Racial modifiers change the base attribute. So if you have a Dwarf say, with a CON of 13, their +1 to CON modifier would change that to 14.
With hit points, that becomes more of a house situation at first level. A lot of CKs allow max hit points + CON modifier at first level and then require the hit die be rolled with the result modified by the CON modifier thereafter. So your d12 barbarian would only receive the 13 hp at first level. At second level, the player would need to roll the d12, say they get an 8 +1 CON mod. therefore gaining a total of 9 hp for second level...and of course adding together for a grand total of 22 hp at 2nd lvl.
The racial modifier is added to the ability score itself, not the ability score modifier. The constitution modifier is added to the hit points that you roll at each level.
welcome to the fold. Have fun. Oh and go tribe. I'm in Erie.. if I can help.
