Converting D20 SRD Initiative Bonus
I am converting some D20 Dungeon Crawl Classic modules, and am a little confused about converting the Initiative Bonus.
The Wrack is a creature with HD of 20d8+100 with an initiative bonus of +11, probably from a high dex.
D20 SRD uses a d20 for initiative, si I was thinking cut the bonus in half? Maybe +5.
Any other thoughts on this?
Probably work okay. Or, if the creature is supposed to be quick, could simply give it a Fast Reaction ability where it is able to act on the first segment of each initiative which would eliminate the conversion issue. I've not even sure there is anything that would cause an Init. modifier that high in C&C. (thinking)
I checked CK Guide, and even a 30 Dex is only +6 Initiative modifier. I do like the idea of Fast Reaction though. Makes conversion quicker and easier.
Thanks!
Your +5 for initiative is easy (I agree with your cutting it in half moving from d20 to d10)
. Give it an 18-20 Dex giving it a +3 or +4 and an ability of Fast Attack for +2 on initiative rolls (if you want to limit it to attacks) or Fast Reactions as a +2 on all DEX rolls including initiative.
We use a D10 for initiative, + your DEX modifier and an additional +1 if DEX is a prime.
Which modules have you converted?
Sorry, just saw this. My latest is DCC #6: Temple of the Dragon Cult, working on the saga of 4 modules,
Saga of the Dragon Cult.
One of my favories is Dungeon Crawl Classics #66.5: Doom of the Savage Kings.
Lots of fun in that and very classic D&D type game that I remember.
