An age old question for sure. I'm just getting into C&C and can't find any specific rules about using a ranged weapon in melee. Is something left to the gm's descretion?
Page 174 PHB 7th printing. Arrow goes in straight line if misses primary target. Roll to hit against subsequent creatures/people in flight path modified by range etc. until no more targets or it hits someone.
I think its in there somewhere that ranged go first, then reach then meele order.. but I think they also note all happens "at once" so no killing the charing person until they get a stike in? I've toyed with this and really wish for a simple yet fair system... the idea is to kill the guy before he hits you with the club or skewer him with a long spear before his sword gets to you... so they should go "first" if that's the case, once you close, their weapon is no good anymore depspite what Leggolas does...
